1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup packked brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3 med apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (3 cups)
1 16 oz can whole cranberry sauce
Whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or light cream (optional)
Apple slices, halved (optional)

For topping, in a medium mixing bowl stir together rolled oats, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Using a pastry blender, cut in margarine or butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped walnuts. Set topping aside.
For filling, in a large mixing bowl stir together 3 cups apple slices and cranberry sauce. Transfer filling to an ungreased 8x8x2 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the topping on the filling. Bake in 375º oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden. Serve warm. If desired, top with whipped cream or ice cream, and garnish with halved apple slices. Makes 6 servings.
