"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

3 C milk

1 C sugar
2 t pure vanilla extract
1 C heavy cream

4 C coarse, fresh bread crumbs
dollop of fresh whipped cream

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º Butter a casserole dish.

In a saucepan, heat milk, chocolate and butter until the chocolate has melted, about 5 minutes. Stir in the sugar and vanilla and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk the cream and eggs until evenly colored. Add the melted chocolate and the bread crumbs and mix well.

Pour the pudding into the prepared baking dish and bake until puffed and set, about 1 hour. The center may jiggle a little but a knife inserted in the center should come out almost clean. Serve warm or chilled, with a dollop of whipped cream and garnished with fresh berries, if desired.
