1 1/2 cups butter or margarine or butter flavored Crisco
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
4 cups flour
4 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cloves
3/4 tsp salt
2 eggs
additional sugar to roll cookies in

Directions:
Directions:
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add molasses; mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, spices and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Shape into small balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 6-7 minutes. Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire rack. Serve with pumpkin dip.
