2 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp finely chopped or crushed garlic
1 cup finely chopped onions
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup diced celery
6 cups of stock or water
1 cup split peas
1 tsp marjoram
1 bay leaf
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the oil in a large pot and saute the garlic, onion, carrots and celery lightly, adding a small amount of salt to draw out their natural juices. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer about one hour until the peas are soft. Remove the bay leaf and adjust the salt and pepper.
