2 cups dry bread
4 cups milk, scalded
1 tbs butter
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
3/4 cup sugar
4 slightly beaten eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Lemon Sauce:
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbs cornstarch
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 cup boiling water
2 tbs butter
1 1/2 tbs lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
Break up bread in small pieces. Soak in milk for 5 minutes. Add butter, salt, and sugar; pour slowly over eggs. Add vanilla and mix well. Pour into greased baking dish. Place this pan into another pan that has water in it (about 1") Bake at 350º until firm, about 40-50 minutes. Serve warm with lemon sauce.

Lemon Sauce:
mix sugar, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg. Gradually add water and cook over low heat until thick and clear. Add butter and lemon juice. Blend thoroughly.
