4 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 egg
4 tsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Glaze frosting: 2 c. sifted powdered sugar (1 box), 1 tsp. vanilla (or use other flavors) and 4 T. cream (I use Half & Half) Can also add various colorings.

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Mix the shortening with the sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix in flour mixture alternately with milk. Unless you have a Kitchen Aid mixer, you need to add the last two cups of flour by hand.
Refrigerate the dough until it's easy to handle (about an hour.)
Preheat oven to 400º. Roll out 1/3 of the dough between two pieces of waxed paper until 1/4 " thick. Keep the rest of the dough in the refrigerator.
Cut the cookies into desired shapes.
Bake 9 min. or until delicate brown.
Frost with glaze frosting.

I use 1 tsp. peppermint flavoring and add 1 tsp. green food coloring to glaze, cut out only Christmas trees, and glaze with the green frosting. Makes 56 trees.
