4 1/2 tsp. unsalted butter
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
3/4 c. milk
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sliced or diced pears
Powdered sugar for dusting.

Preheat oven to 350º. Cut butter into chunks into 9" deep dish pie plate. Place in oven until melted. Whisk together dry ingredients in bowl. Add mild and vanilla until smooth. Pour batter over hot butter. Top with pears. Bake 45 minutes or until top is brown or toothpick poked in center comes out clean. As they bake, pears will sink to bottom and form their own layer. Cool 30 minutes. Dust with powder sugar. Serve warm from dish.
