3/4 cup shortening- melted and cooled
1/4 cup molasses
1 cup sugar
1 beaten egg

Sift together:
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Mix shortening, molasses, sugar and egg together. Stir in sifted ingredients. Chill for 1 hour. Roll into balls and then roll into sugar. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
