2 cups sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
6 tbsp. cocoa
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup boiling water

Fudge Icing:
2 cups sugar
1 cup coffee cream or 1/2 cup canned milk
1/2 cup water
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar and shortening then add eggs one at a time. Sift flour, cocoa, soda and salt together. Add alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla. Beat 2 minutes, then add 1 cup boiling water. Pour into greased and floured 9" pans. Bake for 35 minutes at 350º. Frost with Fudge Icing.

Fudge Icing:
Mix sugar and cocoa together and then add milk. Boil to soft ball stage. Whip and cool. Add vanilla and butter. Put on cake before it gets too dry.
