1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
2 tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Filling:
2 cups finely chopped dates
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar and eggs. Add water and vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients. Drop by teaspoon on ungreased tray. Flatten dough and place 1 teaspoon of filling on each. Then cover with 1 teaspoon of dough. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 375º.

Filling:
Cook dates, sugar and water til thick. Add nuts and let cool.
