1 cup dates, chopped
1 tsp soda
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 well-beaten eggs
1 Tbs vanilla in bowl
1-1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbs cocoa
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips

combine dates, boiling water, and soda. Mash and cook and cool.

cream margarine,1 cup sugar, beaten eggs, and vanilla in
bowl.
3.
sift flour, salt, 3 tbs cocoa in separate bowl. Mix together.
4.
Combine flour mixture and mashed dates. Mix well.pour
into a 9x13" greased pan.
5.
In separate bowl blend:
1/2 cup sugar, chopped walnuts and chocolate chips.
Sprinkle on top of cake.

Put in 325 degree oven and bake for 25 minutes.

The good thing about this cake is; it is frosted when you take it out of the oven. A moist cake, flavor enhances when it sits a day or so, IF IT LASTS THAT LONG!
