Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding Recipe

2 cups milk, scalded
4 T. margarine
2 eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
¼ t. salt
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
5 cups soft bread cubes (about 9 slices)
½ cup raisins, optional

Vanilla Sauce

1/3 cup sugar
¼ t. salt
2 T. cornstarch
1 2/3 cup water
3 T. margarine
2 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine hot milk and margarine. When melted, add to beaten eggs. Add sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla; mix well. Gently stir in bread and raisins if desired. Pour into a greased 2 quart casserole or baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes.

Sauce: Combine sugar, salt and cornstarch in a sauce pan. Add water and cook unto begins to thicken, 3 or 4 minutes. Add margarine and vanilla. Serve both warm.

For a different taste, add ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg to pudding and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg to sauce.
