Ingredients: 6 deviled eggs 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced 5 tbsp. butter (divided use) 1 1/2 lbs. shrimp, boiled, peeled (if large, cut in half) 4 tbsp. flour Salt (to taste) Pepper (to taste) 2 1/2 cups milk 1/2 to 1 cup American cheese, grated 3 slices white bread, diced (browned in butter) Good, crusty bread as accompaniment

Directions:Arrange deviled eggs in buttered, shallow baking dish. Saute mushrooms in 1 tablespoon of butter and place in the dish with deviled eggs. Add shrimp all around.
Sauce: In a saucepan, melt remaining butter. Add flour, salt and pepper, then slowly add milk, stirring constantly. Add cheese and melt in sauce. Pour over shrimp mixture and place crunchy, diced browned bread on top. Bake until thoroughly heated, about 20 to 25 minutes at 350º.
Serve with hot, crusty bread. |

Notes: This is a happily-received brunch dish. Serve with a fresh fruit salad with poppy seed dressing and a medley of steamed vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, sliced yellow squash or zucchini, diagonally cut fresh carrots (vegetables can be drizzled with melted lemon-butter mixed with a whiff of white pepper).
And for dessert, serve 3 or 4 dollops of lime or lemon sherbet with a cinnamon stick anchored in the center. Garnish with a mint leaf and serve in a tall stemmed dessert glass. Lovely!
