Memories: Christmas has always been a favorite time for our family. Doug's family gathers at his house, but Peg and I, along with our families, have always celebrated Christmas Eve at Mom's house. I used to wonder if I had deprived my kids of Christmas at home, but they love being at Granny Ader's as much as I do. My Grandchildren automatically think of Granny Ader's when you mention Christmas. We follow the same traditions that Mother set, although Peg and I have taken over the cooking and preparations. When our children were young, we would make them wait until everyone had eaten before opening presents. We were constantly bombarded with "can we open presents now". Nothing had changed; we still hear that same question over and over again, but now it's my grandchildren. We will continue celebrating Christmas with Mom as long as she is with us. We will have to start new traditions when she's gone, and that first Christmas without her will be difficult for all of us. She has been the center of our Christmas holidays all of our lives. We have been blessed that she was been well enough to enjoy and participate in all of them. Barry always brings his mandolin and asks Mom to sing with him. I am thankful that my daughter Karen has recorded Mom singing, talking, and telling stories over the years. She is our historian.
