3/4 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves

Make into balls about the size of walnuts, and roll in sugar. Bake for 15 minutes at 350º
