2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda in 1/4 cup hot water
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup walnuts
4 1/2 cups sifted flour

Directions:
Form into loaves. Let stand over night in a cold place, preferably a freezer. Slice thin and bake.
