1 stick butter, 2 cups sugar, 1 teaspoon. soda, 2 cups plain flour, 1 teaspoon. vanilla, 1 cup flaked cocoanut, 1-1/2 cup crisco or 1 stick butter, 5 egg yolks, 5 egg whites, 1/2 teaspoon. salt, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 cup pecans--Icing, 1 - 8 oz. Philly cream cheese, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 cup crisco or 1 stick butter and 1 lb. confectionery sugar and chopped nuts for top of cake

Cream butter, crisco and sugar, add egg yolks and beat well, sift flour, soda and salt together and add, atlernating with buttermilk, flour first and last. Stir in nuts and coconut, fold in egg whites that have been beaten to stand in peaks. Bake in 3 - 9 inch pans for 25 minutes at 350 degree oven. Icing- Mix 1-8 oz. phili cream cheese at room temp. with 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 cup crisco or 1 stick butter and 1 lb. confectionery sugar if too thick add a little bit of milk and icing cake, top with more chopped nuts
