2 lb. fresh or purchased pizza dough
2 cup oil (for frying)
Optional: 2 cans of flat anchovies packed in oil

If using the anchovies, drain the oil and pat the anchovies to remove excess oil. Mash the anchovies in a small bowl.

Heat the oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.

Rub your hands in a little oil. Break off about 1-1 1/2 inch pieces of dough.

Stretch the dough into a small circle. Place a teaspoon of the mashed anchovies into center of a piece of dough. Fold the dough over to cover the anchovy. Form the dough into a little loaf or cigar shape.

Drop the dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown - about 3-4 minutes on each side.

If not using the anchovies, simply form the dough into the cigar shape and fry on all sides.
