1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Pinch of allspice
3 lbs. tart green apples, peeled and cut into eighths
1 T. lemon juice
3/4 c. flour
3/4 c. brown sugar
6 T. butter
1/2 c. oats (not instant)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 425º. Butter a 9x9 square baking pan.
Combine sugar, cinnamon, and allspice in a bowl. Add apples and lemon juice to sugar-spice mixture. Toss. Spoon into baking dish.
Combine flour and brown sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in oats. Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit to cover.
Bake 15 min. Reduce heat to 350º and bake 25 to 30 min. more, until top is golden and fruit is bubbly. Loosely cover with foil if top browns too quickly.
Cool 15 min., then serve with vanilla ice cream.
