2 C flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 heaping T shortening
2/3 cup milk or enough to make a good dough
Filling:
8-10 apples
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt 1 stick butter (1/2 cup) in 9X13 baking dish and set aside.
Mix Dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add milk and stir briefly. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and roll thin. Sprinkle dough with Sugar and Cinnamon. Cover with sliced apples. Add more sugar and Cinnamon. Roll and cut into slices like a jelly roll. Lay cut side down in 9X13 baking dish. In small sauce pan put 1 cup sugar, 2 cup water and cinnamon and heat just until sugar melts. Add 1 tsp vanilla and stir in. Pour this syrup over the dumplings in 9X13 pan. Bake in 350º until apples are done. About an hour.
