1 10 oz pkg dates
1 tsp soda
1 cup boiling water
1 egg
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tbsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
4 heaping tbsp butter
1 cup nuts
1 cup sugar

Caramel Icing
1/2 cup butter
1 cup milk
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cut dates in small pieces. Add soda and hot water. Let cool and cream sugar and butter, add egg to mixture. Add dates alternately with flour and salt. Add nuts. Bake about 45 minutes at 350º. Caramel Icing: Boil ingredients hard for 4 minutes and add vanilla. Beat until cool.
