6-7 c French bread, at least a day old, cut into 1-in
cubes.
5 ½ c milk
2 c of sugar
8 eggs
½ c chopped pecans
½ c butter
1 t salt
1 t vanilla
Cinnamon sugar (Mix 2 T sugar and 1 t cinnamon)

Bread Pudding:
Preheat oven to 350.
Fill 9 x 13- inch pan with bread cubes and ½ c pecans. Melt ½ c butter and pour over bread. Set aside. Make custard by combining 2 c of sugar and 8 eggs. Mix in 5 ½ c milk. , 1 t salt and 1 t vanilla. Pour over bread and sprinkle top with cinnamon sugar (2T sugar and 1 t cinnamon) Place 9 x 13-inch pan in larger pan of water. Bake in 350 degree oven for approximately 60 minutes. Test with a knife. Knife should come out clean when pudding is done.

Lemon Sauce:
Mix juice of 1 lemon with ½ c water, ¼ c sugar and grated lemon rind. Bring to a boil, stir in 2 t cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 c water and 1 t vanilla.

Can substitute Whiskey Sauce:
1 c Melted butter
2 c Powdered sugar
2 T Whiskey

Whip together until smooth and serve over pudding.
