1 pound ground lamb or chicken or turkey or beef
1 medium sized yellow onion chopped fine
4 medium sized chopped tomatoes (I like Roma tomatoes because they are better for sauces you can use any that are available)
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (You can use a cheese grater with a handle to grate)
1 tbsp grated fresh garlic
2 tbsp canola oil
2 tbsp garam masala powder (can buy it at any Indian store)
2 tbsp yoghurt
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 cup water
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Salt to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the oil in a saucepan/wok. When the oil is hot add the chopped onion and lower the heat to medium. Saute the onions for about 5 minutes until translucent. Next add the ginger and garlic and saute for another 5 minutes. Then add the turmeric, red chilli powder and 1 tbsp of garam masala and saute for 5 minutes. Add the ground meat and 1 cup of water. Break up the meat clumps with hand or spoon or use a potato masher. Add salt to taste. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Then add chopped tomatoes and mix in the remaining garam masala, yoghurt and cook on low heat another 10-20 minutes that is until the meat is cooked. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired before serving.

Low Calorie Option: Spray the non-stick wok with canola oil spray (I like the whole foods Spectrum brand for high heat) instead of using the oil.
