1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 tsp. salt
1 cup scalded whole milk
1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 egg, beaten
3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Put sugar, salt, and shortening into a large bowl. Scald milk and add to sugar/salt/shotening and stir until shortening is melted. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 to 1-1/2 cups flour and beaten egg, mix well. Add yeast to lukewarm water and allow to stand 15 minutes to activate yeast, then add to mixture, beating well. Add remaining flour a little at a time and mix thoroughly. Set aside covered with towel and allow to rise, doubling in size.

Remove to floured surface and shape into 1-1/2" dia. balls, place into greased baking pan. Bake @ 350º or until tops are golden brown.
