1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup red food coloring
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/4 cup flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 tlbs vinegar
2 tsp cocoa

Directions:
Directions:
Mix vinegar and baking soda let stand. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, mix well. Add cocoa, food coloring then buttermilk, salt and flour. Last add vinegar and soda mixture. Pour into prepared cake pan. Bake at 350 º for 20-30 minutes.

Frosting for Red Velvet Cake:
1 cup milk
3 tlbs flour
Mix this together and cook till thick. Let Cool. be sure it is cold before adding to rest of ingredients.
Cream:
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter (not margarine)
Whip together till fluffy like whipped cream. Spread on cake.
