1 c starter
2 c water
2 tbsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
6 1/2 c sifted plain flour
corn meal
butter, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Measure starter. water, sugar and salt and baking soda into large glass or ceramic mixing bowl. Stir in 3 cups flour and beat until smooth. Cover with waxed paper and let stand in warm place (80º to 85º) at least 18 hours.
When ready to make bread, grease baking sheet or loaf pan and sprinkle with corn meal. Stir batter down. Mix in more flour to make moderately stiff dough. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and satiny, 8 to 10 min.
Shape dough and brush with butter. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Bake in preheated 400º oven for 40 to 50 min or until done. Brush with butter.
