11/2 lb. unsalted ground pork
3 cups boiling water poured over meat
1 lb raisins
1 lb. currants
1/2 lb citron or nuts
5 cups brown sugar
8 cups flour
2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Bake in slow oven for 2 hours.

Mom's recipe is sketchy...I remember she made fruit cakes after butcher day (fresh sausage) usually around Thanksgiving. There were several cakes.She wrapped them in cloth and saturated with grape wine, and put them in large container.
Wine was added periodically to keep moist. Cakes were delicious at Christmas time.
