2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, baking soda, salt, spices and sugar. Beat eggs until foamy. Stir in molasses, buttermilk, and slightly softened shortening. Stir gradually into dry ingredients, beating vigorously until smooth. Turn into a 9 inch square pan. Bake 40 to 50 minutes in a 350 º oven. Cut into squares and serve warm with applesauce, sliced bananas or with 1/2 cup heavy cream, whipped.
