2 c white cornmeal
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 egg
8 tbsp finely chopped onion

Fat or oil for frying

Combine all ingredients and mix. Drop with a table spoon into a pan of hot deep fat. Fry until golden brown.
