4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 lb. cold butter (no substitutes)
1 tsp. powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Knead dough until smooth, about 6 to 10 minutes. Pat dough into an ungreased 15" x 10" x 1" baking pan. Pierce with a fork. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. While warm, dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares. Cool.

I tried to buy a shortbread cookie on the Scottish Island of Mull, but I had only dollars, not Euro. The little girls at the manor house didn't know how to make change, so they just gave me the cookie!
