1 c. butter
1 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 t. almond extract
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 t. salt
red food coloring
1/2 c. crushed candy canes
1/2 c. granulated sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter, confec. sugar, egg and flavorings. Beat in flour and salt. Divide dough in half. Beat in food coloring to one half of dough.
Roll a portion of each color into logs. Place side by side. Cut in 2" sections. Twist and curve top to form a cane. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 for about 9 min. While hot sprinkle with mixture of candy canes and sugar. Makes 36 -45 depending on size.Easily doubles.

This is from Grandma Frances "Betty Crocker Cooky Book" , which came from the old "News Company" and she loved it ! This recipe was a Christmas must ! (Aunt Corrine and I gave this book to our teachers at Christmas it was always a big hit!)
