1 c. shortening
2 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs + enough milk to make 1 c. liquid
1 tsp. soda dissolved in 1/2 c. more milk
6 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:

Blend shortening, sugar, salt, vanilla, nutmeg. Add liquid (1 1/2 c. in all) to shortening mixture and stir well. Sift flour with BP and add, beating well. Roll half at a time on well floured pastry board. Cut with large sized cookie cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350º for 10 min. Use more flour if necessary.

I got this recipe from my mother (Minnie Galloway). My great grandkids love to cut them in different shapes and decorate them with frosting at Christmastime.
