1 1/2 c. (3 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
1 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 T. vanilla
2 eggs
4 c. all purpose flour (I use unbleached)
2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
2 - 12 oz. bags semi-sweet chocolate chips (4 c.)
(secret ingredient: 1 t. almond extract)

Heat oven to 350º. In large bowl, beat softened butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs on medium speed or with spoon until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff. Keep stirring!!). Stir in chocolate chips.

On ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with palm of hand.

Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until light brown (Do not overbake. Centers will be soft.) Cool 1 to 2 minutes; transfer cookies to wire rack.

For nut lovers: Stir in 2 cups coarsely chopped nuts with the chocolate chips.

The key to success with these incredibly delicious cookies is to NOT OVERBAKE them! Does the recipe seem too large? No worries. Simply freeze any extra baked cookies for another day or for a treat to bring to an event!
