¼ c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
2/3 c. dark molasses
2 c. flour (part whole wheat)
½ c. wheat germ

1 ½ t. ginger
½ t. nutmeg
½ t. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Sift together dry ingredients and add, stirring just enough to mix well. Chill dough for at least two hours. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick for crisp men; ¼ inch or thicker for soft, puffy fellows. Cut with floured cutters and decorate. Bake on well-greased cookie sheet at 350** for 10 to 12 minutes depending on thickness of cookies.

Makes 16 to 20 6-inch men.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
*Traditional cinnamon candies or red hots seem to melt while baking. “CakeMate fruit flavored decors – multicolored” work well.
**This is too hot! Try 325 and check time. Wait until after baking to attach redhots.
