3 ¼ c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
½ c. butter
1 ¼ c. sugar
1 egg
½ tsp. oil of anise
¼ c. milk
red and food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
1. Measure flour, baking powder, and salt into sifter
2. Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy; beat in egg and flavoring
3. stir in dry ingredients, a third at a time, adding alternately with milk; stir until well blended
4. Spoon half of dough into a med.-size bowl and blend in red food coloring to tint pink and leave the other half plain
5. Pinch off about a tsp. each of pink and white dough at a time, and roll each into pencil-thin strips about 5 inches long on lightly floured board
6. Place strips side by side, pressing ends together then twisted into a rope and shape like a cane
7. Place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet and bakd 350 for 10 mins
