Ingredients:
simple syrup
bitters (Angostur, Peychaud, & Fee Brothers Orange)
Luxardo cherries
Rye Whiskey

Directions:
Directions:
Start by making your simple syrup. Dissolve 1 cup of white sugar in 1 cup of water. Boil for a minute or so on the stove. (Don’t want to boil too long, lest you wind up with taffy.) After removing from stove, add 3 or 4 whole cloves to simple syrup while still hot. Put simple syrup in refrigerator (it should be kept there always). Remove cloves from syrup after steeping for a couple of days.

To make the drink, start by muddling one Luxardo maraschino cherry (from Italy, you can find them on the internet or in specialty food store) in old fashion glass. Add 1 teaspoon of the Luxardo cherry syrup, and simple syrup to taste. (I’d start with 2 teaspoons of simple syrup, and see if that is sweet enough for your taste.) Add 1 or 2 dashes of Peychaud bitters, 2 dashes of Fee Brothers orange bitters, and 3 or 4 dashes of Angostura bitters. Fill glass 2/3 full of crushed ice, then add generous amount of rye whiskey (Wild Turkey, Jim Beam, or Old Overholt). Mix well. Garnish with whole Luxardo cherry, orange slice.
