one boxed deep chocolate or devils food cake mix
powdered sugar
cocoa
Crisco
salt, about 1/4 tsp
small amount of milk
can use vanilla extract or orange extract.
Directions:
Directions:
Make the cake mix as directed on the box.put in either a 9x13 pan or round pans.Bake as directed.

Frosting: Mix 1/2 lb of powdered sugar, 4 tbs of cocoa or more, 2 large Tbsp of Crisco or other shortening or can use butter.Add a small amount of milk and salt and stir to a medium consistency. Beat well. Add 2 tsp of vanilla or a small amount of orange extract and beat good again. Put on the top and sides of the cake, and serve. Optional chopped nuts.

The family loved (Esther Barton Rollins) chocolate cakes. For a while she would use the orange extract, but most of us liked the vanilla better, especially my brother Jim.
