2 cups sugar
1/2 cup sour milk
4 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking soda, nutmeg, and salt. Add milk alternately with dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto well-oiled baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (430 deg. F.) for 10 - 12 minutes.

Hard to imagine how many times we made cookies using this recipe. Taken from the old black cookbook of Mom's, the page where this is located is food splattered and yellow with age. Not sure about baking cookies at 430 degrees, but that is what the recipe says. The 5 of us made these at Christmas and one year we "tripled" the batch.
