2 cups water
2 cups brown sugar
2 tbsp butter
1/3 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
1 cup chopped dates (soaked in a small amount of water)
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Bring water, brown sugar and butter to a slight boil. Pour into a 9X13 pan and set aside.

Mix together the remaining ingredients and slightly swirl through the syrup. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Let cool and cut into small squares. Lightly mix the cake, syrup and cool whip in a pretty bowl.
