1 3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup light molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. grated lemon peel
Citrus sauce:
1/3 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
2/3 cup water
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. orange juice
2 tsp. lemon juice

Heat oven to 350ºF. In large mixer bowl combine all ingredients. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed (1-2 minutes). Pour into greased and floured 9" round cake pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until top springs back when touched lightly in center. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Meanwhile, in 1 qt. saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch. Gradually stir in water until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until mixture comes to a full boil (10-12 minutes). Boil, stirring constantly 1 minute. Remove from heat; stir in butter, orange juice, orange peel and lemon juice until butter is melted. Serve warm over gingerbread.
