2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg beaten
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
3/4 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together first seven ingredients. Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg; beat thoroughly. Add dry ingredients alternately with applesauce, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the nuts. Turn into greased 9 x 5 x 2" loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF. 60 - 7 Minutes; then remove to cooling rack. Makes 1 loaf
