3 tblsp. butter
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. water
1 c. chopped pitted dates
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. whole-wheat flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter, sugars and egg together thoroughly. Add milk and water; blend well. Toss dates and nuts with 1/4c. flour. Blend remaining flour with whole-wheat flour, baking powder, salt and ginger; add to milk mixture all at one time; stir only until blended. Stir in dates and nuts. Turn into greased 9 x 5" loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF. 1 hr. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pan. Makes 1 loaf
