1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Topping:
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sour cream

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350ºF. In large bowl, cream brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy; blend in vanilla and egg. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Gradually add flour, soda and salt to creamed mixture; mix well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. With thumb make imprint in center of each cookie. Combine topping ingredients; fill each cooke with 1 tsp. topping. Bake for 10-14 minutes or until delicately browned.

Some of my favorite memories as a child were of my Mom, Jo-Anne, baking cookies for my sister Allison and me while we watched and tasted the dough. She made many kinds of cookies, but these have always been my absolute favorite.
