1/2 cup butter (room temp)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 oz (2 small bottles) red food coloring
2 tablespoons (HEAPING) cocoa powder
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/4 cups CAKE FLOUR
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp white vinegar

FROSTING
3 Tbl flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup BUTTER

Preheat oven 350º grease "3" 8 inch baking pans.
Cream butter, sugar and eggs
Make a paste of the food coloring and the cocoa powder, add to the creamed butter mixture. Add buttermilk alternating with the flour and salt mixture. Add vanilla then add soda to vinegar and add to the batter..Mix well.
Pour into baking pans. Bake 24-30 min

Add milk to flour slowly, avoiding LUMPS cook flour and milk until very thick, stirring constantly. Cool completely. Cream sugar and vanilla until fluffy add to the cooked mixture Beat on high speed until very FLUFFY frost cakes and cover with nuts.

I prefer this frosting over the cream cheese...everyone does the cream cheese, this frosting is more involved but OH SO WORTH IT! This recipe came from Ann one of my Foster Mothers years ago.
