Dough:
1/2 c butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Date filling:
8 oz dates, cut in pieces
1/4 c sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 c water
1 c chopped nuts

Directions:

Dough:
Cream butter and sugar. Add other ingredients. CHILL. When chilled, roll out into a rectangle shape.

Filling:
Bring water to boil with sugar, salt, dates. Simmer 5 minutes. Add nuts.

Spread date filling evenly on dough, and roll as a for a jelly roll. Chill overnight.
Slice 1/3" thick.

Bake: 375º
Time: 10 minutes.
