1 c. shortening 1 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 c. white sugar 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
4 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla
5 generous c. flour 2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt nuts (optional)
chocolate chips
Edie adds: 2 tbsp. honey or corn syrup to help keep the cookies soft when cooked.

Beat butter, Crisco, sugars, eggs and vanilla together. Add dry ingredients and bake at 375º for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack and enjoy!! Or freeze and enjoy later!! Makes a ton of cookies. You can even freeze the dough balls to bake later.

Ramona: This is our family's favorite cookies!! My kids know the recipe by heart!! We also use cherry, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips. It makes a ton of cookies which is great to take to school, scouts, church, or George family gatherings. Thanks Grandma for giving us this recipe and the many memories we have from eating them at your house!!
