¾ cup warm water
¼ cup warm milk
1 lg. egg, room temperature
3 ¾ cups flour
2 tsp. milk powder
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup of soft butter
3 tsp. dry yeast

Directions:
Directions:
Place above ingredients into bread machine in the above order. Select dough cycle and press start.
When dough cycle has finished, including rising time, remove and place dough on a lightly floured work surface. Divide into three sections. Let sections rise for 5 minutes. (IMPORTANT, the dough MUST rest for 5 minutes.)
Place shaped dough into 3 greased pie plates and cover with a light clean towel. Let rise, about 45 minutes.
Make indentions in dough with your finger. Top dough with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, dot with pats of butter, drizzle with evaporated milk or whipping cream.
Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes.

This goes back to Gene Herzog’s great great grandmother. He converted this into a recipe for bread machine.

Although kolache recipes are very detailed this one can be used and it makes great kolaches.
