1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 well beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 - 1 oz squares of unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add egg, vanilla and chocolate, blending well.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Drop on greased cookie sheet. (To be modern, I use parchment paper.)
Bake 10 - 12 minutes in 350º
Frost with chocolate frosting.

I've made this recipe for years. It was even in a cook book in 1950, published in Elysian. They're a family favorite and I'm expected to bring them to every event.
