1 (14 ounce) package caramels
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1 (2-layer) package German chocolate cake mix
1/3 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 c. (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Place the caramels in a double boiler. Add 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Cook over hot water until the caramels melt, stirring constantly. Combine the cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and butter in a mixing bowl and beat to form a soft dough. Stir in the pecans. Press 1/2 of the cake mixtures into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake at 350º for 6 minutes. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips, spreading evenly. Drizzle with the caramel mixture. Crumble the remaining cake mixture of the top. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until the edges pull from the sides of the pan. Let stand until cool. Chill, covered, for 30 minutes. Cut into squares.

Yields: 2 dozen
