1 12 oz can Evaporated Milk
1 c. sugar
1 dash salt
1 c. butter
3 T. dark Karo syrup
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
24 caramels
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the 1st 7 ingredients in a sauce pan and cook over low heat until caramels are melted. DO NOT BOIL.
Add vanilla and beat for 5 minutes on med. Switch to high and beat 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and cool for 30 minutes. Pour into containers and store in the refrig.
To serve warm just enough to pour.

This can be made into a caramel sauce by replacing the white sugar with brown and replace the chocolate chips with white chocolate or butterscotch chips, and use maple extract instead of vanilla.
